Bite-size wedges of traditional Chinese mooncakes with lotus seed paste and salted duck egg yolk, on white background

A mooncake is a round Chinese pastry product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunisolar calendar. Typically baked, they contain a rich thick filling usually made from red bean or lotus seed paste and may include yolks from salted duck eggs. The Mid-Autumn Festival is widely regarded as one of the four most important Chinese festivals and mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival.
