Cpl. Keen Polk captured an image of German dugouts on the north side of a hill in Varrennes, En-Argonne, Meuse, France. In the background, the ruins of a castle can be seen where Louis XVII was taken prisoner during his attempted escape to Austria. The photograph was taken on October 25, 1918. It was approved by the censor but the date of approval was not provided.
