Re-enlisted as Corporal of Company H,Nineteenth Massachusetts Volunteers,October, 1861, promoted to Sergeant inAugust, 1862, and was severely wounded atthe battle of Fredericksburg on the after-noon of the third day, and was dischargedfor disability July 25, 1863. He was one of those detailed to removethe United States Frigate Constitution from Annapolis to the Brooklyn NavyYard, participated in the battles of York-town, West Point, Fair Oaks 2d, PeachOrchard, Savage Station, White OakSwamp, Glendale, Malvern Hill, MalvernHill 2d, Chantilly, Antietam.
