Mike Bernacchi, commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano talk with Chief Warrant Officer 3 Juan Staggers (left), Officer in Charge of the USS Chief Fire Fighting Trainer and Chief Damage Controlman Rodlin Achreus, leading chief at the trainer on Recruit Training Command (RTC), March 15. Firefighting is just one of the many Navy skills recruits learn during their time at the Navy’s only boot camp. MCPON was on hand at RTC to see changes in the curriculum to more intensive hands-on training. RTC is approximately eight weeks and all enlistees into the Navy begin their careers at the command. Training includes physical fitness, seamanship, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control along with lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork and discipline.
