Having read several articles In The Eeview on the' burning of fuel oil, I thought that my experience with it might be of interest to readers. I have been burning fuel oil for' the last four years and have tried several makes of burners, but I have found that I get the best:results from my own installa- tion. I have made many burners and have -now perfected an installation that I think will stand the test anywhere. I do not use a nozzle to spray the oil, but I have made a mixer which will mix air with the oil before it enters the fire; this creates a blaze like that from a blow toreb. This installation will give the, same results in cold weather, when oil Is thick, as in warm weather, when oil :is thin; the apparatus never clogs. A heavy or light fire can be had by in- creasing or reducing the oil supply. The oil is fed by gravity to the mixer and is'iAicked in with the air by steam. The installation will not interfere with the burning of coal and a change from on oil fire to a coal fire can be made in less than five minutes; or coal and oil can be burned at the same time. I burn oil when oil is cheaper and coal when coal is cheaper. Oil at 5 cents per gallon 'is cheaper than coal at $5 per ton, figuring at the track ready to unload. '-When burning oil a large stor- age: tank on the place is a good invest- ment. When burning oil last winter I had no day fireman and often left the boiler room for three to four hours when the weather was stationary. I have often had coal with which it was hard work to keep up steam with three boilers, while with oil I have used only two. ' .. O. H. Herman. PBOPAGATINa PHLOXES.
