The apparatus iscompactly mountedon a three-wheeledtruck made to oper-ate on the runningtrack. As it can beremoved by two menin twenty seconds onapproach of a bonding is donewithout interrupt-ing traffic. It re-quires about threeminutes to make acomplete bond, in-cluding the attach-ment of the mold, the starting up ofthe motor-generator set, the welding process, the re-moval of the mold and the rounding up of the bondterminals. The time required for the actual weldingis forty to fifty seconds. After removing the mold theends of the bond are hammered round to divert ARC-WELDED BOND AFTER COMPLETION Air Press for Armature Coils BY G. B. SISSON Mechanical Department, Georgia Railway & Power CompanyAtlanta, Ga. One of the features of our armature room is a home-made pneumatic press de-vised by J. E. Eaves, mas-ter mechanic, for pressingarmature coils. It replacesa slow hand-operated screwpress, and makes a moreuniform coil than was pos-sible with the varyinghuman pressure exertedwith the screw press. Thecontrolling mechanism ismade from an old whistlevalve and is operated bya pedal so that both theoperators hands are leftfree to hold the press has been insatisfactory use for severalvears.
