The eye recovered and remained quiet for thesubsequent six weeks. It had not been quiet pre-viously for more than two weeks since last Fig. 101.—Kollers Corneal Loupe With Focal Illumination.(Microscope.) AUeman, of New York, is a warm advocate ofgalvanism in the treatment of corneal opacities. Hesays,— I concluded that by applying a small elec-trode to the surface of the cornea, a current ofgreat density wouid be used directly to the diseasedpoint; and, as the greatest molecular activity is in-duced at a point directly in contact with the elec-trode, the indication of limiting the currents actionwould be fulfilled. I apply the other electrode to 246 ELECTKICITY IN DISEASES OF THE EYE. the cheek. (AUemans electrode.) The tip of theelectrode is silver, which, plunged into mercury, forms an amalgam that makes a smooth cushion toapply to the cornea. The cathode is applied to tliecornea. I begin with one-quarter to one-half a milliam-pere, for one minute. Should this be easily borne, Igradual^ increase the current up to three or fourm. a., which I place as t
