Krauth is Chief Engineer ofthe Alameda Fire Department. He hasa long and meritorious record as a fire-man. As a boy he ran with the juniororganization of Manhattan Engine Com-pany No. 2 in the days of the VolunteerFire Department, and after the forma-tion of Rincon Hose Company No. 6, hebecame a member of that body. Whenthe paid Department came in ChiefKrauth joined Hose Company No. 2 andwas one of the original members of thatcompany. in September, 1876, heassisted in organizing the first companyin the Alameda Fire Department, andfrom that time to the present has been-an active and enterprising memberof the Department.
