Sow in drills 1 foot apart and 1 inch deep, as early as the ground can be worked; when the plants are large' enoug4i tliin out to stand 6 inches apart in rows; continue for a succession as late as the mid- dle of Julv. Keep well cultivated. To preserve Beets during the winter select a dry piece of ground and put about 20 bushels in a pile, covering with sufficient earth to keep out tlie frost.
