051207-N-7241L-005 Persian Gulf (Dec. 7, 2005) - An F-14D Tomcat, assigned to the "Tomcatters" of Fighter Squadron Three One (VF-31), launches from the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). VF-31 is slated to be the last remaining F-14 Tomcat squadron to operate from an aircraft carrier at sea and the last of the Tomcats to transition to the newer F/A-18 Super Hornet strike fighter aircraft.
