The attempt of the Duke of York to foist hisrepresentative Andros upon the Jerseys, whileabortive, led to the establishment of a new early as September 18, 1685, GovernorThomas Dongan, of New York, wrote that A New Seal of this Province is very muchwanting. The King appointed a seal for Our Province of New York and the Terri-torys depending thereupon in America, thus in-cluding the Jerseys.
