The feature of the week was the football game between the Army and Navy, this annual event always brings to town a large number of society folks, who are entertained by the resi- dent leaders of the exclusive circles and this calls for a number of more or less elaborate dinner decorations, which in addition to the flowers worn at the game, kept the surplus down to the minimum. Violets were in good demand, but the greed of the growers or the dealers or both, boosted the prices until the public refused to buy; .$ per hundred was asked for both double and single fancy stock and pretty much all that came in was held as fancy. The usual result followed as there was plenty offered of the very best at $ later in the day. The quality of the rose stock in all varie- ties is much improved since the cold weather set in and some fine flowers are seen, with some of the fancy Kil-. larney and other select varieties, sell- ing as high as $15 per hundred.
