Its situation, though low, issalubrious, and its appearance prepossessing : the townconsists principally of one spacious street, extendingfor nearly half a mile along the turnpike road ; thehouses are in general well built, and several of them arehandsome : it is neither paved nor lighted, but wellsupplied with water from springs, and from the smallriver Ddaw, which passes through the centre of it. Theold town-hall, shambles, and market-house, whichstood in the centre of the principal street, obstruct-ing the thoroughfare, have been removed, and theold county bridewell, situated at this place, has beenrecently converted, chiefly by subscription, into aneat town-hall, with jury-rooms and other market days are Tuesday and Saturday; themarket on the latter is chiefly for butchers meat andother provisions: the fairs, principally for cattle, areon the first Tuesday in February, the Tuesday be-fore March 25th, May 4th, June 24th, and September. c o w C O Y 29th: there are also two great markets on the first Tues-days in August and December.
