There were 3,127school-houses, valued at $1,660,; and3,683 teachers, to whom was paid over $538,-400 in salaries. These figures show a substan-tial increase over those of 1875. The Institution for the Deaf, Dumb, andBlind, at Romney, is supported at a cost of about$30,000 a year.
