(Mathewson), WISCONSIN - Of 143 barns checked in scattered areas, only dairy cattle in Winnebago County annoyed at night by mosquitoes. The two main species in Dane County, Aedes vexans and Culex pipiens pipiens, were more common than thus far this season and complaints more frequent. Catches indicate that populations slightly greater than at this time last season. (Wis. Ins. Sur.). MINNESOTA - During period July 27 - August 4, a total of 56,000 mosquitoes taken in light traps in Metropolitan Mosquito Control District. The previous week the total was 19,000. Aedes vexans females accounted for 61 percent of total catch. Anopheles walkeri was the most numerous Anopheles with Culex tarsalis the most common Culex. Mansonia per turbans continued to decline. Aedes vexans was found in 25 percent of larval samples, 84 percent of daytime biting collections and 81 percent of nighttime biting collections. (Minn. Ins. Rpt.).
