EU 21st January 2013. European Medicines Agency suspends anti-cholesterol drugs Tredaptive, Pelzont and Trevaclyn. Patients can no longer be supplied with the medicines from today. The drugs were used to reduce fats in the blood such as cholesterol and tryglycerides. Results from a recent study indicated that adding the pill to statin therapy did not significantly further cut the risk of coronary deaths, non-fatal heart attacks or strokes. Benefits did not outweigh risks of potentially adverse side effects.
