There is an on-white image of this coin: BW4RMN. Vasco Núñez de Balboa (1475–1519) was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. Born in Jerez de los Caballeros in Spain in 1475, he was notable for founding the first permanent European settlement in the Americas, Santa María la Antigua del Darién (1510) and as the first European to cross the continent to the Pacific (1513). He was executed in 1519 in Acla after a conspiracy to dishonour him. He is celebrated in Panama and the Panamanian currency, the Balboa, is named in his honour.
