A path in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado seemingly leads straight into the Milky Way.

The night sky has always filled me with wonder and awe. I awoke on this morning a little before 2:00am and made the hour plus drive to Rocky Mountain National Park. I knew where I wanted to shoot, and with the use of some star programs, I knew where the Milky Way would be. Everything lined up between 3:00am-4:00am. This Milky Way image was taken near Lake Irene on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Lake Irene is short stroll from Trail Ridge Road. A little past the lake where the path follows a southwest direction, the Milky Way rolls over the trail. This night was calm and peaceful, but only a few hours later the clouds gathered and provided a pretty spectacular sunrise, as well.
