On leaving college he engagedin newspaper work, serving on thereportorial staff of the San Fran-cisco Chronicle and specializing inamateur athletics, becoming a recog-nized authority in all branches ofwholesome outdoor sport as well asone of the leaders in the recreational movement of the city.
