Brighton, UK. 21st December 2012. The people of Brighton and Hove make paper and willow lanterns to carry through the city and burn on the beach every December 21, the shortest day. The winter solstice festival, called Burning the Clocks, includes a procession, with fire and fireworks on the beach. About 2,000 people usually take part, watched by thousands of spectators.
