This portrait of Monsieur Bertin by French painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres dates to 1832

This portrait of Monsieur Bertin by French painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres dates to 1832 and is housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. Louis-Francois Bertin was a press baron and founded the Journal des Debats. Bertin—a journalist and businessman—backed the idea of a constitutional monarchy and French king Louis Philippe. Ingres created the archtype of the triumphant bourgeoisie of the 1830s. This painting is Ingres most realistic. Notice the amazingly sharp details.
