Bactrian Camel Camelus bactrianus


Bactrian Camel Camelus bactrianus only found in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia and the Taklimakan Desert of Xinjiang, China. They can withstand extremes of temperature from -30 degrees centigrade to sweltering temperatures of the desert. In the wild they are found in groups of 6 to 30 females led by an adult male. They have a long woolly coat that can be shed quickly and can drink upto 57 litres of water in one sitting. Critically endangered and is the 8th most endangered animal of the planet. Captive animal at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
