There are three varieties of apparatus by which the actual cautery maybe applied: the old-fashioned cautery irons of different shapes and pat-terns, the galvano-cautery, and the thermo-cautery of Paquelin. A verysimple and mild thermic effect may be produced by applying the meltedend of a stick of sealing-wax to the diseased surface; for want of better,this expedient may be used in simple erosion of the cervix.
