Jarviss adjuster, although very complex,possesses some advantages over the pulleys,which may, perhaps, entitle it to the preference in a few cases. Among the constitutional means, ether and chloroform occupy thefirst rank; indeed they are, at the present day, almost the only meansof this class to which surgeons resort, and their value in this point.
