Ansells Silver Jubilee Strong Ale bottle label - 1977. Ansells began life in 1857 being founded by Joseph Ansell. The brewery merged with Tetley Walker and Ind Coope in 1961 to form Allied Breweries. Production came to halt in 1981 and was moved to Burton upon Trent. The Manchester brewer JW Lees currently produces Ansells Mild and Bitter for the successor of Allied being Carlsberg.
