On the 17th of June following, proposals forthe building of the jail and sheriffs residence were Rhodes, Poland, & Rhodes were the lowest bidders, butthey failing to give satisfactory security, the bid of TimothyB. White was accepted as the lowest and best, and he wasawarded the contract, June 23, 1856. The contract was signedby Wm. P. Phillips and Philip Cooper on behalf of the
