Charlestown is about 2 miles from the centre of St Austell and has remained relatively unchanged as a port. It is a popular tourist destination and also frequently used as a location for historical films. The South West Coast Path is Britain's longest waymarked long-distance footpath and stretches for 630 miles (1,014 km) from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset.
