Kiniero, Guinea, 30th April 2015: This village and the surrounding area will be flooded by the Fomi Dam. Labourers working for Kabinè Condé, 40 years old, brick maker, has been making brick for 5 years. His kiln can hold up to 15,000 bricks. The bricks are dried under the sun for two days, then fired for two days in the kiln using wood cut from the forest as fuel. Kabiné sells each brick locally for 400 to 500 GNF. He makes 10,000 to 20,000 bricks per year depending on the length of the rainy season because of the high river level but during the dry season it’s possible to make many bricks. 40 people work at making these local bricks.
