A caravel is pictured above Columbus' head, and below is the coat of arms tradition said Ferdinand and Isabella gave to Columbus. The motto is in Spanish: Nuevo Mundo Hallo Colon por Castilla por Leon, which translates as: A New World Columbus gave for Castile and Leon.
