Salvation Army Major Philip Wittenberg assists giving out free donuts in Union Square in New York during the celebration of National Donut Day on Friday, June 3, 2016. Supported by Entenmann's, the bakers gave out tens of thousands of chocolate donuts and donated up to $35,000 to the Salvation Army. National Donut Day, the first Friday in June, was created in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the "donut lassies" who administered treats and solace to soldiers during WW1.
