Tokyo Jidai-matsuri (Tokyo Historical Parade), November 2012, in Asakusa. Asakusa is considerably older than Tokyo at large, dating back to AD 628 when an image of the Kannon emerged from the Sumida River and was worshipped in this area. A community developed around Sensoji Temple, and particularly during the Edo era, the temple flourished as the center of popular Edo culture.
