The 1907 caption reads: "Believed to be the image of Francisco Pizarro From 'The Description of America.' published in Amsterdam in 1673." Francisco Pizarro (assassinated 1541), Marquess of the Atabillos was a Spanish conquistador, best known for his expeditions that led to the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. Born in Trujillo, Spain to a poor family, Pizarro chose to pursue fortune and adventure in the New World.
