Boeing F A 18F Super Hornet just taking off from right to left at the Farnborough Airshow 2006 . On reheat at V2 nose off the ground and [rear undercarriage] just about to leave it . The Super Hornet 18 F is an improved [two seater] version of the F18 B and D two seaters . It can cover a variety of roles including [fighter escort] suppression of enemy [air defences] reconnaissance and [forward air control] as well as day and night [strike missions] . It is straight forward to fly and its "control by wire" "fly by wire" [flight control] system provides excellent handling . Having completely [digital avionics] allows easy upgrades and it has been used extensively by [US Navy] carriers . The F A 18 E and F aircraft are just over 4 feet longer than earlier Hornets carry 33 percent more internal fuel for extra range have a 25 per cent larger wing area and also has two additional [weapon stations] to allow it to carry the newest joint [smart weapons] such as JDAM and JSOW . Engines Twin F414 GE 400 engines each providing 22000 [pound thrust] . Range about 500 [Nautical Miles] . [Max speed] Mach 1 point 6 at 36000 feet . [Maximum take off weight] just under 30000 kilogrammes
