Gigantoraptor (Gigantoraptor erlianensis) pair in dense forest, artwork. Gigantoraptor was a large dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous (85 million years ago). It grew to a height of 8 metres and weighed 1400 kilograms. It belonged to the Oviraptoridae group of dinosaurs which had bird-like beaks and feathers. Gigantoraptor was bipedal. It had long, thin hindlimbs and shorter forelimbs with large, sharp claws, which suggested it was a fast running predator. It is thought that modern day birds evolved from feathered dinosaurs.
