View S inside the main chamber of Wideford Hill Neolithic chambered cairn, Orkney, Scotland, UK, with entrance to SW side cell rear R: 3 cells lead off the central space (a rectangle aligned N-S) at N, E & SW. The chambers are cut back into the hillside & covered by a circular cairn overlooking the Bay of Firth. No human remains were found in the tomb, but in 1849 horse bones were discovered on the floors of the N & SW cells & large quantities of horse, cattle, sheep, pig & deer bones in the lower levels of rubble & earth which had fallen/been poured through a regularly-built square opening in the roof of the main chamber.
