Assos (or "Asos") one of the most beautiful villages of Kefalonia, on the north part of the island. Ionian Sea, Greece

Some of the most beautiful villages of Kefalonia are located on the north part of the island. The villages of the north were less affected by the huge earthquake of 1953, compared to towns and villages of the south part, that were completely destroyed! Two of the most "famous" villages of Kefalonia, Fiskardo (favourite of the skippers) and Assos (my personal favourite) are located on this northern part. What's most impressive about Assos is its location, on a narrow piece of land, a "neck" that connects the mainland of Kefalonia with a small peninsula. On top of the peninsula you can see a Venetian Castle of the 16th century. Photo taken from the road that goes to the castle. Assos village, is situated very close to world famous Myrtos beach
