Adam Kok, the Griqua Chief, after whom thetown was named, Charles Brisley, his Secreta y, EdwardBarker, who filled the position of Surveyor, and every memberof the old Heemraad or Privy Council has passed away. Thelast of the two men who held office, as Magistrate, from 1869to 1872, while the town was taking shape—the late LodowijkKok, of somewhat painful memory to the present generation—has quite recentlearlyannalsofkok00dowe
