Three Silla Kingdom burial mounds in Gyeongju, South Korea, echo the shape of distant mountains that surround this valley, where the powerful ruled.
Gyeongju is peppered with burial mounds from the Silla Kingdom; it is located in an 83 sq. mile valley,where theseat of power must have been absolutely monumental. Most tombs are from the 1st to the 8th centuries. The Silla period, like the Tang Dynasty in China, was the epitome of the country's art and culture. Marvelous museums hold the contents of a few explored tombs.
