The date palm grove in El Kantara near Biskra, Algeria
El Kantara ("the bridge" in Arabic) is a small town in the countryside of Biskra. The name comes from the small Roman bridge crossing the gorge at the city gate on the road from Biskra to Batna. The city is also known under the name of “The mouth of the desert” for its opening in the mountain range giving access to the Sahara desert.
