A woman stands in front of an ancient pyramid at the Piramides de Guimar Ethnographic Park Tenerife Canary Islands

The Piramides de Guimar Ethnographic Park in Tenerife displays the ancient pyramids, thought to be built by the Guaches, who inhabited the Canary Islands before the arrival of the Spanish in the 15th Century. The pyramids were considered to be of great ethnographic significance to the Anthropologist explorer Thor Heyerdahl, who initiated the setting up of the park. There is also a display of Heyerdahls boats, the Kon-Tiki which he sailed from Peru to Polynesia in 1947, the Ra2 (of which there is a full sized replica) which he sailed from Morocco to Barbados in 1970 and a Sumerian reed boat which he sailed down the Euphrates to Djibouti in 1978.
