Marble sarcophagus with lid formed as a steeply pitched gable roof, decorated richly in relief with themes relating to beliefs for the afterlife. Along the long side runs a garland with leaves and fruits, held centrally by a small Eros and framing heads of Medusa with snakes and wings on one face and lion heads on the other. The cover of the sarcophagus replicates roof tiles in relief and bears pediments at the edges with eagle and lions among ox head, palmettes and rosettes. It was found under the altar of a Christian basilica and contained bones and golden jewelry. Malia, Roman period, 3rd c
