Placental expulsion, artwork. This is the third stage of labour, which begins just after the baby has been delivered and ends with the expulsion of the umbilical cord and placenta (afterbirth, grey and white) through the vagina. Expulsion of the afterbirth usually occurs within 30 minutes of the baby being delivered.
