Mc(/LiELLAN, John Jasper,niganistof the Tabernacle,Salt Lake City, is theson of John Jasper and Eliza B. Mc-Clellan, and was l)orn April 20, 1874, atPayson, Utah county, Utah. He wasbaptized into the Church when abouteight years old, and was later ordainedto the Priesthood. From early child-hood he displayed talent in the musicalline, and at the age of ten began thestudy of music in Payson, his birth-Iilace, with a local teacher, and wasorganist of the Church there at the age of seventeen years was. reached, he practiced without the aidof a competent teacher upon the pianoand organ. In July, 1891, he left Utahfor Saginaw, Michigan, where, foreighteen months, he pursued his studiesdiligently under the guidance of asplendid German master, Albert , who laid the foundation thor-oughly for the young mans musicalgrowth. Bro. McClellan was assistant at St. Pauls churchand for several Sundays (in the absenceof the organist) played the fine organin the First Congregational Church ofthat city. He also participated in sev-eral piano recitals given by pupils with good success. TheAnn Arbor Conservatory, had beenfounded in the meantime and Bro. Mc-Clellan went to that instituion.
