Karato (唐戸) is the downtown area of the city of Shimonoseki, Japan. It is known as the most famous sightseeing spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture. This fish market is very famous in the area. It is known throughout Japan as the main center for puffer fish (fugu). Locals would come in the early morning to stock their supply from the wholesalers, whilst enjoying a sumptuous sushi breakfast and the many stalls there. It is also highly popular with tourists who visits for the very fresh sushi on sale.
