Berthault, Pierre-Gabriel- 1794 - During the July 27 session at the Convention, Robespierre and his supporters were charged and arrested by the Thermidorians. Released by the Commune, they took refuge at the Hôtel-de-Ville, but were arrested the next morning by the troops sent by the Convention. It is at this moment that the episode of the shot fired by Constable Merda at Robespierre takes place, the most often illustrated version. The other version is that of suicide. The same evening he was guillotined with his supporters, without trial.
