Francisella Tularensis Culture


Colonization on Cysteine Heart Agar after 72 hours. Francisella tularensis is a Gram-negative rod-shaped (though pleomorphic) bacillus bacteria, which is non-motile. It is an insect-borne pathogen of rabbits, squirrels and other rodents in many countries notably the west USA and in Russia. Ticks, fleas, flies, may transmit the organism. Treatment is with antibiotics.
