Belgium / Netherlands: 'Still Life with a Jug with Flowers'. Oil on panel painting by Hans Memling (c. 1433-1494), c. 1480. Hans Memling/Memlinc was a German-Flemish painter from the Early Netherlandish tradition of painting. Born in the Middle Rhine, he apprenticed in the Netherlands and spent time in Brussels. In 1465 he became a citizen of Bruges, becoming one of the leading artists and master of a large workshop. He became one of the city's wealthiest citizens.
