After the regiment disbanded on August 18, 1861, Hunicke joined Co. A 4th Missouri Volunteer Infantry as a Sgt on Sept 5, 1861 in St. Louis. He was mustered out of service on Feb. 1, 1863 at Benton Barracks (The Union Army 1998: 282 and Missouri digital soldiers records).
