This ticket will be voted upon by mail ballot of themembership and the vote canvassed at the annualmeeting of the Society in January in New York. Theconstitution of the Society provides means for nam-ing a second ticket if the regular ticket is not accept-able, but there has never been a contest. Probably the greatest professional interest of themeeting, was in the paper on Turbulence, by HarryL. Horning, but W. S. James paper on Elementsof Fuel Economy was the subject of much favorablecomment and would doubtless have resulted in asmuch discussion had it not been the last paper atthe concluding session. 1142 AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRIES THE AUTOMOBILE June 2, 1921. The Combustion SessionT HE combustion session wasin many ways interestingand instructive. Group-ing together some of the mostadvanced ideas on what is be-lieved to take place in the com-bustion chamber of an enginecylinder, the meeting held fortha promise that the highest ther-mal efficiency possible with theOtto cycle may be realized inthe near future. The session was presided overby Thomas Midgley, and papersby H. L. Horning on Turbulence, nBmi^eeBforkrTraensi C A- French on Flame, and Sir dent. Dugald Clerk on Cylinder Actions in Gas Engines were presented. While the discussion showed that there are minordiscrepancies in theory and in the interpretation of ex-perimental results at the present time, there is, on theother hand, a remarkable unanimity of opinion on thegeneral fundamentals which apply to flame and itspropagation in the combustion chamber. The discussions brought out the fact that the researchwork covered has produced many practical results. In
