India: 'Krishna and the Milkmaids'. Gouache on paper painting from a Ragamala series, Ragmala or Ragamala, literally meaning a 'garland of Ragas, or musical melodies', consists of a series of raga musical compositions or modes. This has also given rise to a series of Ragamala paintings. These differ according to the author and the music school they are derived from. Thus there exist a number of such lists in the music text books of India.
